SUMMARY:Digital lunch seminar
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Doctoral student network digital lunch seminar\, 12:00-12:30\, 3 June \nThird out is Erik Figenbaum is the Chief Research Engineer at the Institute of Transport Technology in Oslo. Eriks theme is: Norway’s supercharged battery electric vehicle market – Lessons learnt. \nNorway has through large incentives achieved an unprecedented expansion of the market for battery electric vehicles. The presentation will focus on the policies\, incentives and user experiences that have supported these developments over time\, and the lessons learnt that are relevant for other countries. \nAbout Erik Figenbaum\nErik Figenbaum is the Chief Research Engineer for the research area Transport Technology and Environment at the Institute of Transport Technology in Oslo\, Norway\, which he joined in 2012. He has extensive experience within vehicle technologies\, in particular electric vehicles\, ranging from national implementation plans\, barriers\, opportunities\, effect of policies and incentives\, to analysis of user and societal perspectives and effects based on diffusion and transition theories. Furthermore he was responsible for the systems integration of the electrical components and the battery system in the Think Electric Vehicle in the period from 1998-2002. He has also previously worked for the Norwegian public Roads Administration\, the Norwegian Environment Agency\, and the Norwegian Institute of Technology. \nAbout the Doctoral student network digital lunch seminars \nDuring these seminars various aspects of electromobility will be dealt with\, based on Academy\, Industry and Society perspectives. The seminar series will consist of shorter lectures during lunchtime between 12:00-12:30. \nWe welcome all our partners to attend the digital lunch seminar between 12:00-12:30\, 3 June via Skype.\nPress here to access the online link: Join via Skype

SUMMARY:Digital lunch seminar
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Doctoral student network digital lunch seminar\, 12:00-12:30\, 6 May \n\n\n\nSecond out is David Blekhman\, Professor of Technology at California State University Los Angeles and Technical Director of Hydrogen Research and Fueling Facility\, is an expert in the field of hydrogen infrastructure. He has been selected as a 2019-2020 Fulbright Distinguished Chair of Alternative Energy Technology and is conducting research at the Department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology\, Sweden. \n\n\n\nIn this lunch seminar David Blekhman will talk about Moving Towards Hydrogen Integrated Economy \n\n\n\nAbout David Blekhman“My older son and Greta are of the same age. At this age our kids are already old enough to tell us that we are not leaving them the world in a pristine condition. Rapid climate change\, multiple sites of human operation\, and rampant exploitation of the Earth’s resources are the drivers for finding solutions that are more humane. Hydrogen is one of the pathways we are exploring to address these challenges. Hydrogen has its positive properties as well as challenges. But it certainly is and will be the technology of interest. Following the California leadership of the past twenty years\, Japan\, Korea\, Germany and others have been rapidly developing their hydrogen infrastructure. California State University Los Angeles operates it own Hydrogen Research and Fueling Facility. Using electrolysis\, the station produces hydrogen onsite from renewable energy sources. Using electrolysis also enables future research into energy demand-response and energy storage strategies. Hydrogen station has also participated in multi-year data collection\, hydrogen safety workshops\, and equipment deployment in collaboration with national laboratories. As the largest university campus hydrogen fueling installation in the nation\, facility is actively engaged in research and demonstration projects\, community outreach and available to fueling hydrogen vehicles operated by the public. The lecture will share principles of hydrogen fueling and research into the Scandinavian hydrogen infrastructure.” \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Doctoral student network digital lunch seminarsDuring these seminars various aspects of electromobility will be dealt with\, based on Academy\, Industry and Society perspectives. The seminar series will consist of shorter lectures during lunchtime between 12:00-12:30. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe welcome all our partners to attend the digital lunch seminar between 12:00-12:30\, 6 May via Skype/Zoom. SUMMARY:Hearing on strategy for transport research and innovation

SUMMARY:Thesis defense: Ageing in Commercial Li-ion Batteries
DESCRIPTION:Doctoral thesis defence by Evelina Wikner\n\n \n\nTIME: 20 September 2019 at 10:00\nVENUE: Room KC\, Kemigården 4\, Chalmers Chalmers University of Technology\nSUERVISOR: Prof. Torbjörn Thiringer\, Electrical Engineering\, Chalmers University of Technology\nOPPONENT: Dr Daniel Abraham\, Argonne National Laboratory\n\n \n\nABSTRACT\n\n \n\n“Ageing in Commercial Li-ion Batteries: Lifetime Testing and Modelling for Electrified Vehicle Applications“\n\n \n\nIn this thesis\, ageing in a commercial pouch cell for vehicle application is investigated through lifetime testing and modelling. The lifetime tests investigate the impact of temperature\, current\, depth of discharge (DOD) and state of charge (SOC). Results from lifetime tests are used in the development of an empirical ageing model\, to study the ageing as a result of different user cases in a vehicle application. The results showed that the battery lifetime in a vehicle application could be prolonged\, without interfering with the driving itself\, by better planning of the charging. Lifetime test results and ageing analysis of the tested cells are used as guidance for the development of a physics-based ageing model. The model includes capacity loss and resistance increase due to resistive film formation and loss of active material. The lifetime test results showed that for the studied cell\, staying below 40% SOC level will improve the lifetime considerably. This was seen in both the calendar ageing tests and the cycling ageing tests. The lifetime tests performed in small SOC intervals at different SOC levels showed that the ageing is separated into two groups\, with more pronounced ageing at high SOC and less ageing at low SOC. The main ageing contribution is the growth of Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI)\, which is also the case seen in the model when using parameters for the SEI growth extracted from calendar ageing data. The more pronounced ageing at higher SOC levels can partly be explained by the SEI growth that is increased at higher SOC level and partly from the contribution of manganese dissolution. This was confirmed by Post Mortem (PM) analysis and successfully captured by the model.\n\n \n\nMore information: https://www.chalmers.se/en/departments/e2/calendar/Pages/Thesis-defence-Evelina-Wikner.aspx\n\n \n\nDownload complete thesis: https://research.chalmers.se/publication/512004/file/512004_Fulltext.pdf
