SUMMARY:Theme (5) Vehicle–Grid Interaction webinar on V2G for Electric Freight Fleets: Insights from Two RISE Projects
DESCRIPTION:Jonas Hellgren (RISE) will present insights from two recent projects that explore the technical and economic potential of bidirectional charging for heavy-duty electric vehicles. \nThe first project\, “Analysis of Bidirectional Charging for a Fleet of Electric Freight Vehicles” (2025–2026)\, investigated how V2G can reduce operating costs for operators of heavy-duty electric fleets. The study evaluated distribution trucks\, construction machinery\, and passenger car fleets\, combining classical optimization methods with reinforcement learning to assess charging and discharging strategies under real-world operating conditions. \nThe second project\, “V2G in Electric Distribution Trucks – Actor Constellations and Feasibility for Pilot Projects” (2026–2027)\, focuses on the practical implementation of V2G for electric distribution trucks. The project examines how costs\, revenues\, and risks are distributed among different stakeholders\, and how roles\, responsibilities\, and incentives can be designed to support viable business models. Particular attention is given to battery degradation\, smart charging strategies\, and the development of techno-economic decision support for future pilot demonstrations. \nDrawing on more than 20 years of experience in electromobility across both industry and academia\, Jonas will share lessons learned\, discuss emerging opportunities for fleet-based flexibility services\, and reflect on the role of advanced control methods such as reinforcement learning. Jonas is also the author of the recently published book “Reinforcement Learning Explained”. \nThe presentation will be followed by a Q&A session. \nWarmly welcome to attend! \n  \nDate 13 November 2026\nTime 09:00–10:00\nLocation Online – registered participants will receive the Teams link after registration has closed. \n  \nPlease click HERE to register for the webinar \nRegister by 12:00 on 9 November 2026.
