SUMMARY:Network Webinar – CEVT
DESCRIPTION:The SEC Doctoral Network welcomes Niklas Legnedahl from CEVT for a Network Webinar on “Zeekr Charging experience\, with the User and Energy in focus\, how to pioneer the fast-growing EV market. What role do CEVT and SEC play\, and why are you as researchers so important to us?”. \n  \nThe innovation journey – from idea to product\nCEVT’s new Energy & Charging concept where user needs & wants are prioritized.\nThe method of starting with what to solve/achieve is not new but not common within automotive\, bottom up from technology is dominating here. We have instead put the user in the center to ensure that the solution fits their needs.\nThe journey to reach this started 7 years ago with an idea and a design thinking methodology that later became yet another methodology\, the journey includes several innovation projects along the way. The innovation projects have involved SEC projects as well as startups through Mobility Xlabs\, all to broaden our horizon when it comes to more user-optimized functionality.\nThis will not tell a complete success story\, instead\, it will end up with struggles along the way when trying to introduce something new in an industry that is not famous for bold decisions. This is also where SEC and especially your PhDs come in and contribute a lot with the in-depth technical studies and long-term perspective. \n  \nWho is Niklas Legnedahl\nAfter completing a master’s in industrial electronics at Luleå Tekniska Universitet\, the career started in the “real” High Voltage area at ABB Network Partner AB in Västerås 1997 with electronics development. Next stop – Ericsson Microwave Systems\, with the aim of the world’s first WCDMA base station\, working with electronics and FPGA development for 3years. New challenges led to the automotive industry and AB Volvo 2001\, which was electrifying itself a first time where the SW and electronics development started to dominate. Later when the second electrification started\, around 2009\, the Electromobility department opened a new opportunity and it led to 8years as ESS Technical expert with several battery launches as well as new energy concepts. In 2017 the road was paved to CEVT to evolve as a functional architect creating new EV functionalities and experiences. \n  \nCEVT – China Europe Vehicle Technology – For a different tomorrow\nCEVT is the European R&D center for ZEEKR\, located in the Lindholmen area of Gothenburg\, Sweden’s automotive technology hub. Established in 2013\, the business began with the mission of creating a revolutionary vehicle architecture\, CMA\, designed with full scalability to accommodate a wide range of drive systems and technology solutions. The CMA platform has since been used in over 2 million vehicles globally. \nZEEKR is the newest luxury EV brand from the Geely Group. The company is committed to driving the future of transportation with cutting-edge technology and a customer-centric approach. \nCEVT has evolved to become a hub renowned for mobility innovation\, recently developing the fully electric modular SEA-M architecture\, purpose-built for shared autonomous use. The first vehicle on the platform was launched jointly by ZEEKR and Waymo in 2022.\nWe are here to make mobility enjoyable\, smart\, and sustainable. Powered by world-class engineering expertise\, innovation ability\, and speed\, CEVT is at the forefront of mobility technology. \nOur core values and guiding stars are:\n• Think big\n• Find a way\n• Inspire \n  \nDate        8 November \nTime       13:00-14:00 \nWhere     Teams – the Teams link will be sent by e-mail after registration is closed. \nThe last day for registration is 6 November at 13:00. \n  \nIf you are an employee (not a PhD student) at one of SEC’s partners and would like to join this lunch webinar\, please sign up below to get the Outlook invite and link. \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Theme 2 – Workshop: Charging infrastructure and EMC
DESCRIPTION:The fast-charging infrastructure for electric vehicles needs to grow at a high rate to balance the desired and expected growth of the fully electric vehicle fleet. Each charger is built with switching power electronics and is thus a source of high-frequency noise that can be both conducted and radiated. \n  \nWhen a charging site with many fast chargers is built the increased number of chargers and the increased size of the site contribute to aggregated levels of disturbance and a widened radiated spectrum. Similar reasoning also applies to various forms of electric roads. \n  \nThe defense forces of Sweden have identified a need to discuss solutions to secure that these disturbances\, both from individual chargers and from big charging sites\, are kept within controlled limits. These limits protect digital communication but may also apply to the safe operation of pacemakers\, autonomous vehicle navigation systems\, etc. \n  \nThe workshop intends to “put the problem on the table” and start a discussion on what knowledge building\, what kind of solutions\, etc is needed to secure that relevant limits are respected. \n  \nAgenda\n09:30 – 10:00 Gathering at the venue. Coffee is served. \n10:00 – 10:15 Welcome and introduction to the day. (SEC + MIL) \n10:15 – 10:30 Round the table presentation of participants and expectations. \n10:30 – 11:30 Problem description (Anders Broberg\, MIL) \n11:30 – 12:00 Discussion \n12:00 – 13:00 Lunch \n13:00 – 14:00 Further presentations (SEK\, Elsäkerhetsverket\, Maple Energy\, …) \n14:00 – 15:00 Discussion \n15:00 – 16:00 Summary and action plan \n  \nThe workshop will be a hybrid meeting. \nAddress to venue: Lindholmen Science Park\, Room Kelvin\, Lindholmspiren 5\, 402 78  Göteborg (maximum 50 people) \nOnline: closer to the event\, the Zoom link will be sent by e-mail to those who register. \n  \nClick HERE to register. \n  \n

SUMMARY:PhD Student Course: Hybrid Electric Powertrains – Modeling\, Control\, and Optimization\, 4.0 hp
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to SEC PhD Student Course:\nHybrid Electric Powertrains – Modeling\, Control\, and Optimization\, 4.0 hp\n  \nCourse credits (suggested): \nThe course is planned for 4.0 hp for students with engineering background. To have these credits within your PhD curriculum you need an approval of your examiner. \n  \nCourse goal\nAfter the course the participants have learnt: \n\nMethods for analyzing energy consumption of vehicles in driving missions.\nThe impact of different vehicle design parameters on energy consumption.\nKnowledge of hybrid electric vehicle configurations.\nComponent based modeling for system level analysis of energy consumption.\nKnowledge about optimal control and experience from solving the problems with Deterministic Dynamic Programming.\nExperience from developing optimal energy management strategies for Parallel and Series hybrid vehicles.\n\n  \nFor whom\nThe course is aimed for both engineers and researchers working on some aspect of electromobility. It is open for PhD students within the field and employees of the partner companies in the Swedish Electromobility Centre. \nThe course is not aimed to make the participants experts on vehicle design but introduce them to vehicle system modeling for energy analysis and control optimization. \nThis course is considered demanding and it will need commitment from the participants during the time it is running if you want to pass the course\, so it is for those that have time in their schedule and plan for working actively with the assignments during the time the course is running. \n  \nPrerequisites\nIt is necessary to have a Master of Science in engineering\, or corresponding experience\, and to have a basic understanding of vehicles. The assignments rely on the usage of standard Matlab and Simulink with no extra commercial toolboxes\, therefore the participants are encouraged to brush up their knowledge of Matlab and Simulink. \n  \nCourse structure\nThe course includes several parts which are mixed during the course: \n\nAn introduction video to the course and hand-in assignments will be available before the course starts.\nLecturing is done by pre-recorded video lectures of about 60-90 minutes that will be released regularly according to a schedule that is provided at the start of the course.\nTwo hours after each lecture video has been released\, there will be a Q&A session where I will be available in a Zoom-room to answer questions and discuss the contents of the lecture. These Q&A sessions usually last between 15-75 minutes depending on the interest and number of questions.\nThere are two hand-in assignments with written reports\, to be done individually at home\, and handed-in for correction and pass.\nTo support you\, in the process of solving the assignments\, there will be a sequence of Zoom Q&A sessions where you can ask questions about the assignments and get help to develop the solutions.\n\n  \nProject tasks\nThere are two projects to complete. \n\nThe first one is on implementing an analysis tool for vehicle energy demand in driving missions and using it for analyzing the energy demands for different drive cycles. A final task is to use the tools to dimension the battery so that it fulfills the desired range.\nIn the second project two passenger vehicle powertrains (a series and a parallel hybrid) are modelled and dynamic programming is used to find the optimal energy management strategies for the vehicles over different driving missions.\n\n  \nProject work and group\nThe projects are completed individually at home/office and then there are time slots where you can ask questions and get help and input on your assignments. The teacher organizes the Zoom meeting rooms for Q&A sessions after the lectures and Project\, while the groups need to arrange suitable rooms for their own meetings or equipment for online group meetings. \n  \nExamination\nThe course will be graded “pass” or ”fail”. The grade “pass” requires \n\nComplete reports\, describing the solution for and results from the two hand-in tasks.\nEach participant has to be able to “defend” their solutions of the project tasks.\n\nThere will not be any written exam. \n  \nExaminer\nLars Eriksson\, lars.eriksson@liu.se \n  \nCourse literature\nVideo Lectures\, with accompanying hand-outs.\nA Project PM that describes the tasks for the hand-in assignments. \nThe course content is based on the book: \n“Vehicle Propulsion Systems” by Lino Guzzella and Antonio Sciarretta\, 3rd Edition. \nThe book is not necessary but is generally recommended for engineers who are interested in the area of modeling\, analysis and optimal control of energy consumption in vehicles. \n  \nCost\nThe course is free of charge for PhD students within the SEC PhD student network. Spots will be prioritized for PhD students\, however\, participants from the partner companies in the Swedish Electromobility Centre which are not PhD students can attend but are subject to a course fee of SEK 4\,000 (VAT excl.). \n  \nRegistration\nRegister at Swedish Electromobility Centre’s website 13 November 2022\, at the latest. \n  \nCourse schedule \nStart            November 21\, 2022 \nEnd              December 16\, 2022 \n  \n\n\n\n  \nWhen\n  \nWhat\nEstimated Time for participants\n  \nWhere\n\n\nWeek 40\nCourse introduction video available.
