SUMMARY:Seminar on electric flights
DESCRIPTION:Swedish Electromobility Centre and the Doctoral Student Network are happy to invite all our members to this seminar about electric flights. \nWe have invited three speakers to talk about electric flight from their perspective. \n– Anders Forslund\, Heart aerospace. Anders will speak about his journey from Ph.D. student to running a company developing an electric aircraft. Anders is a former Chalmers PhD student in aerospace product development. He formed Heart Aerospace in 2018\, participated in the Y combinator startup accelerator in 2019. \n– Lennart Thörn\, Senior Adviser\, Trafikanalys. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from aircraft need to be reduced if Sweden is to meet its long-term climate objective of zero net GHG emissions by 2045 and our obligations under the Paris Agreement’s 1.5° temperature goal. Transport Analysis’s findings for these areas will be presented during the seminar. \n– Anders Lundbladh\, GKN Aerospace. The presentation The road to ”zero” climate emission air transport will show that aircraft emission is likely to become critical in a few decades. It will give an overview of five ways to drastically reduce the net heating caused by air travel and where electric power can be used to produce hydrogen and electro fuels as well as used directly for propulsion. Anders Lundbladh is an Engineering Fellow of GKN Aerospace and Adjunct Professor of Propulsion Engineering at Chalmers University. He has led Swedish and European research for innovative propulsion solutions and has 30 years’ experience in the Aerospace Business. \nPress here for full invitation and agenda\, pdf

SUMMARY:Digital lunch seminar
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Doctoral student network digital lunch seminar\, 12:00-12:30\, 7 April 2021.\nBjörn Hasselgren & Elin Näsström\, Trafikverket \n”Calculation models” \nBjörn Hasselgren and Elin Näsström will present the financial calculation tool developed by the Swedish Transport Administration in collaboration with EY. The model takes the perspective of the different actors in the road transport sector and supporting sub-systems basically comparing the cost of diesel-powered HDTs with different electrification alternatives\, such as ERS\, batteries/stationary charging and H2/FC. Cost and income statements in a yearly firm-perspective are calculated for the different actors. The model and its results will be presented in the seminar. \n\nAbout Björn Hasselgren \nBjörn has been working for the Swedish Transport Administration since 2009. His focus-areas are primarily financing and organisation-related analyses of major transport infrastructure projects. Since 2016\, he has been working with the electrification of HDT in the road transport market. With a PhD from KTH Royal Institute of Technology he is also involved in transport related research e.g. as a guest researcher at Uppsala University. \n\nAbout Elin Näsström \nElin has been working at the Swedish Transport Administration since November 2019. She is working at a department called National Planning and the main part of her time revolves around the electrification of heavy vehicles. She works alongside Björn on issues regarding business models\, financing and organisation. She also has a master degree in economics. \n\nAbout the Doctoral student network digital lunch seminars \nDuring these seminars various aspects of electromobility will be dealt with\, based on Academy\, Industry and Society perspectives. SUMMARY:Thesis defense: Transportation Mission-Based Optimization of Heavy Combination Road Vehicles...
DESCRIPTION:Doctoral thesis defence by Toheed Ghandriz \nAbstract:\n“Transportation Mission-Based Optimization of Heavy Combination Road Vehicles and Distributed Propulsion\, Including Predictive Energy and Motion Control”\n \nThis thesis proposes methodologies to improve heavy vehicle design by reducing the total cost of ownership and by increasing energy efficiency and safety. \nEnvironmental issues\, consumers expectations and the growing demand for freight transport have created a competitive environment in providing better transportation solutions. In this thesis\, it is proposed that freight vehicles can be designed in a more cost- and energy-efficient manner if they are customized for narrow ranges of operational domains and transportation use-cases. For this purpose\, optimization-based methods were applied to minimize the total cost of ownership and to deliver customized vehicles with tailored propulsion components that best fit the given transportation missions and operational environment. Optimization-based design of the vehicle components was found to be effective due to the simultaneous consideration of the optimization of the transportation mission infrastructure\, including charging stations\, loading-unloading\, routing and fleet composition and size\, especially in case of electrified propulsion. Implementing integrated vehicle hardware-transportation optimization could reduce the total cost of ownership by up to 35\% in the case of battery electric heavy vehicles… \nMore information and the meeting link: https://www.chalmers.se/en/departments/m2/calendar/Pages/Transportation-Mission-Based-Optimization-of-Heavy-Combination-Road-Vehicles-and-Distributed-Propulsion-Including-Predictiv.aspx \nRead complete thesis abstract: https://research.chalmers.se/en/publication/520358

SUMMARY:Lunch seminar about Electric flights
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to this lunch seminar about Electric flights. \nRegister to event\nProf. Daniel Brandell and Doc. Cecilia Boström will present the ongoing activities within SEC at Uppsala University and thereafter Mauritz Andersson will talk about the possibilities to have electric flights. \n“Electric flights with batteries – will that work?” \nThe climate challenge is critical and aviation accounts for a significant part of the problem. The ELISE project (Electric Aviation in Sweden) accelerates the development of electric aviation with the realization that it requires many people to work together. We are now building electric aircraft with today’s technology at the same time as we are building competence for the possibilities of the future. Within a decade\, domestic aviation will be able to be largely electrified. Flying on electricity can be both resource-efficient and energy-efficient! \nWe will return closer to the seminar if there will be opportunities to participate on site in Uppsala. \nPress here to dowload inivation\, pdf>>

SUMMARY:How can we understand electric roads – five questions and (probably more than) five answers
DESCRIPTION:On the 15th of October the government announced that Sweden will build 2\,000 km of electric roads by 2030. But what does that mean? Is 2\,000 km a lot or is it too few? \nKTH will try to answer all of your questions regarding electric roads in a breakfast seminar with five experts on the different aspects of electrification of our roads. Join KTH together with the moderator Peter Georén to answer:\n– What is an electric road? Are there different techniques? (Karin Ebbinghaus)\n– Why (or why not) should we build electric roads? (Maria Bratt Börjesson)\n– Where should we build the electric roads? (Gyözö Gidofalvi)\n– How do we pay for the electricity? (Mats Engwall)\n– Who should build and maintain the roads? (Björn Hasselgren) \nFor more information press here >>
