Critical electromobility milestones: learnings from a triple helix workshop in Sweden

In the spring of 2024 Swedish Electromobility Centre arranged an extensive cross-thematic workshop to discuss and identify critical milestones necessary for electrifying the transport system. The workshop was attended by stakeholders, experts and decision makers at the forefront of electromobility in one of the leading markets in the world, Sweden. The findings have now been published in the paper: Critical electromobility milestones: learnings from a triple helix workshop in Sweden.

Swedish Electromobility Centre has a wide partner network that gathers all the main actors in the field in Sweden. Fifty-eight participants attended the workshop, a majority coming from academia (59 %) followed by industry (37 %) and then other actors.

The participants were given the task of back cast what needs to happen and when, to achieve the following hypothesizes for the future:

  • The sustainable transport of the future will require that a large part of / all the transport system will be electrified.
  • Swedish actors have contributed to this process, for it to happen in a meaningful way. Sweden stands strong within electromobility.
  • Where electrification is the optimal solution, it is implemented in the best way.

Out of the workshop emerged 33 milestones clustered into 12 categories, which were then sorted into three broadly defined areas: Vehicle, Infrastructure, and Production and resources. The findings were presented by Linda Olofsson, director of Swedish Electromobility Centre, during the Electrical Vehicle Symposium (EVS38) taking place in Gothenburg in June 2025.

The list of milestones and further read about the learnings from the workshop are published in the paper: Critical electromobility milestones: learnings from a triple helix workshop in Sweden.

This paper was presented at EVS38, 15-18 June 2025 in Gothenburg, Sweden: https://evs38.org/
