Webinar Environment and Society – Future of Truck Electrification in Europe: Megawatt and Depot Charging

26 February,09:00-10:00

Welcome to an open online seminar held by Theme (4) Environment and Society. Guest speaker is Patrick Plötz from Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI in Germany, and the title is “Future of Truck Electrification in Europe: Megawatt and Depot Charging”.

The decarbonization of road freight transport is pivotal for Europe’s climate targets, and electric trucks are emerging as the key solution. However, their widespread adoption depends on a robust charging infrastructure that meets the demands of fleet operators and long-haul logistics. This talk explores the complementary roles of depot charging and Megawatt Charging Systems (MCS), emphasizing their importance for operational efficiency and range extension.

Additionally, the development of public charging networks and their integration with depot and MCS solutions will be discussed. By examining current challenges, technological innovations, and policy support, this presentation highlights how Europe can build a cohesive charging ecosystem to enable the large-scale deployment of electric trucks.
