Hans Eric Melin is the founder and managing director of Circular Energy Storage Research and Consulting, a London-based research company that since 2017 has been tracking and analysing the end-of-life market for lithium-ion batteries. Before founding the consultancy Hans Eric Melin was Vice
President of Market Development at the largest battery recycler in the US, Battery Solutions, and before that CEO of Refind Technologies, a company providing AI-based sorting solutions for the battery recycling industry.
Through the research within Circular Energy Storage Hans Eric Melin has brought the
industry’s attention to several important issues such as China’s lead in both reuse and recycling of batteries and battery material production, the export of used battery-containing products and how lifecycle of lithium-ion batteries relate more to ownership and user behaviour than pure technical lifetimes. His work has been published in academic journals like Science and Nature and he is frequently quoted in international media such as Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal and Wired Magazine. He is frequently engaged as a speaker at conferences in Europe, North America and Asia. Hans Eric Melin has a BSc in Communications Studies and Business Administration from Göteborg University in Sweden. He shares his time between London and Vienna.
