Magnetic materials are at the heart of electric motors. They channel the magnetic fields generated by coils or permanent magnets, enabling the interaction that produces torque — and ultimately, the tractive power that drives our vehicles.

For optimal performance, these materials must guide magnetic fields as efficiently as possible. Yet, because the fields are constantly changing under real operating conditions, soft magnetic materials also introduce losses. Understanding and modelling the loss behaviour of these materials is complex, but essential for improving efficiency and reliability.

In this workshop, participants will gain insights into the characterisation, modelling, and testing of soft magnetic materials —directly from the researchers and experts who work hands-on with these challenges.
