Electric powertrain development is inherently complex, requiring the integration of multiple engineering disciplines and physical domains, including electrical, mechanical, thermal, and control systems, whose interactions ultimately determine performance, efficiency, durability, and safety. Traditionally, this complexity has driven extensive experimental testing and validation campaigns, which are both time-consuming and costly.
Digital Twin technologies offer a powerful opportunity to complement and reduce physical testing through high-fidelity virtual representations of real systems, enabling faster design iterations, earlier issue detection, and more informed engineering decisions. With the latest advances in artificial intelligence and data-driven methods, Digital Twins can achieve greater accuracy and predictive capability, supporting the development of more robust products while reducing development costs and accelerating time to production.
In this workshop, we will explore the latest opportunities, methods, and challenges associated with Digital Twins in electric powertrain development:
– Using Digital Twins to foster innovation in powertrain development
– Real-time simulations for motor control in EVs
– Can Large Language Models simulate electrical machines?
– Using Digital Twins for the development of traction inverters
– Machine-Learning methods in electric motor design At the end of the session, we will have a guided tour of BorgWarner electric powertrain test lab.
