Theme 4: Innovations and barriers in electrification – at battery cell level and in the logistics system

7 November, 2022,13:00-14:30

Welcome to this Environment & Society open online seminar:

Nicolas von Drachenfels, PhD student at Technischen Universität Braunschweig: “Using LCA to assess innovations in battery cell production – methods and results developed at Battery LabFactory Braunschweig” – Nicolas will present how methods developed at the Battery LabFactory Braunschweig (BLB) aim to increase the applicability of life cycle assessment (LCA) in battery life cycle engineering (LCE). The two approaches, integrated computational LCE and modular material and energy flow models, are explained. The results of a case study compiling six recent and upcoming innovations in battery cell production, like electrode dry coating and thicker electrodes, are shown.

Dr. Henrik Gillström, theme researcher at Linköping University: “State-of-the-art analysis of the current electrification of trucks in relation to business models” – There are several factors that hinder large-scale transition to electrified trucks, including how future business models and financing models are expected to change. Henrik will present a state-of-the-art analysis of current electrification of trucks and business models, including a review of research projects, academic publications, and industry perspectives, regarding barriers and trends. This work is part of the research project REEL which focuses on regional electric deliveries.
