SEC PhD Student Network webinar – Beyond Charging: Enabling the Transition to Electric Heavy-Duty Transport
7 October,13:00-14:00

Charging heavy-duty vehicles is more than a technical challenge. It represents a critical transition for the entire transport and logistics sector, requiring infrastructure, technology, and sustainability to work together. Although heavy-duty vehicles are fewer in number than passenger cars, they account for a significant share of emissions, making electrification a key factor in reducing the sector’s climate impact.
The EU is driving this transition through clear regulatory frameworks, while the economic case for electrification is strengthened by lower energy and maintenance costs. However, challenges remain, including insufficient charging infrastructure, limited interoperability, and business models that are still evolving. In addition, vehicles and charging infrastructure need to be scaled up in parallel to avoid the classic “chicken-and-egg” dilemma. TRATON Charging Solutions is working to address these challenges and create the conditions needed for the future of electrified transport.
